Change dependency mindset of university graduates - GJA Prez

Reverend Dr Samuel Donkor, President of All Nations’ University College in Koforidua, has called on Ghanaians to sustain the country’s peace since conflict had never benefited any society.
He cautioned the youth not to allow politicians to manipulate them as Ghana prepared for Election 2012.
Rev. Dr Donkor was speaking at the National Youth Peace Stakeholders’ Conference, organized by the Global Youth Network Foundation, in Koforidua on Saturday.
He said considering the political crises going on in some African countries, religious organisations, political parties and civil society groups should create awareness on the need for Ghanaians to ensure peaceful elections next year.
Rev. Dr Donkor appealed to politicians and their followers to undertake political activities devoid of insults, bitterness, rancour, hatred and violence.
“This is the only way Ghana can continue to enjoy peace and political stability and gain respect and recognition at the international level,” he said.
Rev. Dr Donkor praised the media for contributing to the deepening of democracy but expressed concern that some journalists were inflaming passion and engaging in ethnocentrism in the country.
He called on journalists to be professional and circumspect in the discharge of their work, to preserve the country’s peace and integrity.
Rev. Dr Donkor was presented with the Global Peace Award for promoting peace and helping to resolve conflicts in the Northern part of the country.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Mr Titus Jawol Bisunna, noted that many conflicts were connected to land, chieftaincy, politics and tradition.
He said political interference was a major obstacle to efforts aimed at settling such conflicts as it was it difficult for security agents to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of crime.
Mr Bisunna appealed to political parties not to hide behind their supporters and create confusion in the country.
