Department of Business Administration

Introduction

The Business Administration department was a foundation department which started in November 2002, with an intake of 20 regular students, which has grown to 891 (comprising of 640 regular and 251 part time students.)
The Department of Business Administration is the largest in terms of:

  • Student Population
  • Lecturers and Technical Instructors
  • Employee Stability
  • Highest number of Graduands
  • Best out going student of the University
  • First SRC President
  • Best Lecturer award for 2006 - 2007

Accreditation and Curriculum
The Business Administration program is fully accredited by the National Accreditation Board, and offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with the following options:

  • Accounting and Finance
  • Banking and Finance
  • Marketing
  • Human Resource Management
  • Entrepreneurial Studies

We are currently exploring the creation of new options that are relevant to today’s financial trends in Ghana.
Our curriculum was revised in 2003, September 2004, September 2005 and July 2007, to keep up with normal trends in business education globally. We have revised our basic and elective curricula to embrace emerging concepts in modern day conventional and internet-based business applications.

Internships and Summer Programmes
Formerly our fifth semester students did internships every Friday, but our revised programme involves active internships by the 5th and 6th semesters during the long vacation.
The department runs a summer programme for workers which now attracts over 300.

Faculty Development
Four graduates of the ANU Business Administration programme were sponsored in the year 2006 to Karunya University to pursue their Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and three students were sponsored in 2007 to SRM University for further studies.

Future Plans
The Department plans to begin graduate programmes in Business Administration. There will be two tracks for the graduate programme:

  • as a twining programme with SRM University of India
  • as an independent programme affiliated to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

Launching into a graduate programme will lead to the creation of our School of Business.

Proposals

To contribute to the development of critical skills for corporate Ghana, we will offer short-term training for managers and supervisors in 2009.
