Library

LibrarianThe University College Library has a physical stock of over 40,000 (forty thousand) volumes of books that cover all courses offered by the University College and more, including Encyclopedias and other reference books. For space management purposes, the current library location contains sufficient books as prescribed by course lecturers.
It is expected that more books will be displayed from storage as soon as the first phase of the Permanent Site, which is currently under construction, is completed.

Librarian
Students are advised to abide by the rules and regulations of the Library, or face disciplinary action. Specifically, students are to note the following:
Admission to the Library
1. All students may be allowed admission into the library except in cases of intoxication or
misconduct
2. Silence must be observed at all times in the library premises
3. Eating, drinking, spitting, and sleeping, are prohibited. No food or drink is allowed into the library, including fruits, candies, and other wrapped confectionaries.
4. Purses, handbags and backpacks or similar containers, are not allowed into the library.
5. Cell phones must be switched off at all times.
6. In times of conflicts, the decisions of the librarian shall be final except in cases that demand further investigation.

 

Care of Books


1. No book is to be written in, cut, or damaged in any way. Any defect in or damage to any book must be reported to the library staff immediately. Readers / students must not trace any picture or figures from books or other library material
2. Readers and borrowers will be held responsible for any dam age to, or loss of, books in their charge, and will be required to pay the appropriate costs of such damaged or lost books.
General Rules
3. Gowns, raincoats, umbrellas, scanners, tape
recorders etc must be deposited with security at the entrance and a tag given as a receipt. However, such items are deposited at owners’ risk, and the library disclaims responsibility for any loss or damage to these personal items.
4. Firearms and other offensive materials or weapons are not allowed anywhere near the University College premises.
5. Pets are not allowed in the library.
6. No seat shall be reserved by or for any reader. Any seat so reserved shall be cleared by library staff for use by others.
7. Library staff will inspect all items taken out of the library.
8. Readers may not enter staff offices except by invitation.
9. Students shall clear with the library before end of semester examinations.

10. All borrowed library items must be returned before the commencement of end of semester examinations.

 

Borrowers and Privileges / Obligations


1. Books shall be issued to students for 2 (two) weeks.
2. Every late item will attract an overdue charge of 10Ghp (Ten Ghana pesewas) per day until it is returned
3. Reference books and periodicals are generally available for short-term use within the library, and are not to be taken out of the library.
4. A book may be renewed if it is not on hold and the current borrower has not exceeded any limits.
5. Borrowing privileges will be withdrawn if the borrower owes overdue fines to the library
6. The University college reserves the right not to lend a borrower any library material, without explanation.

 

Offences and Sanctions


1. Loss of Library Item Offence Sanction
The Borrower shall pay twice the current price of the item, plus a processing fee of GH ¢ 1.00
2. Unlawful acquisition of library material / stealing
Regular Books: Loss of library usage rights and other privileges, up to suspension / rustication from the University College; Reference Books: Suspension from the University up to dismissal. Rare books: Outright dimissal
3. Mutilation of books and related materials

Suspension and possible dismissal from the University College.
4. Failure to return library items upon demand of library authorities

Overdue charges, administrative charges and loss of privileges up to suspension from the University College.

Academic Board

The Academic board is responsible for guiding the student’s academic career at the University College.
Departments
ANUC has currently a total of six fully acredited departments by the National Acreditation Board, Ghana and soon the School of Business and the nursing departments and others to follow.
