Youth urged to join call for peace

Ghanaians, especially the youth have been urged to add their voice to the peace advocacy in the country, especially during and after the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Global Youth Network Foundation (GYNF), a youth group formed within the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the All Nations University College (ANUC) at Koforidua made the call on Tuesday at its annual conference on the theme: “Communicating Peace to the Nation through dialogue and tolerance.”

The Network said: “No one goes near war, but where there is peace everyone runs there to seek solace. Let us therefore smoke, eat, wear, speak and think peace wherever we find ourselves so that Ghana can be a better place for all of us.”
The conference was dubbed: “National
Youth Stakeholders for Peace Advocacy Conference 2011”. It is organised annually to bring together individuals from all parts of Ghana, especially those from conflict prone areas such as Yendi, Bawku, Alavanyo, Peki, Nkonya, Tsito, among others.
Naa Wal-Lana Abdulai, a representative of the Regent of Dagbon, advised the youth to always be wary of persons, especially politicians who misled them into causing conflicts in the country.
“Today’s mathematics seems to be more difficult than it was some years back - know your modern mathematics and issues occurring and use them to change the world in which you are positively,” he told the youth.
Alhaji Sulemana Alidu, a representative from the Abudu faction from Yendi, also expressed worry that chieftaincy issues in recent times were being politicized indicating that the dirty nature of politics being practiced recently was the main cause of conflicts in Ghana.
He entreated the youth to learn from the mistakes of their elders in order to exhibit responsible attitudes and behaviours at all times.
Alhaji Alidu told the youth: “When an elder is carrying a heavy load, the young must help unburden his load. Conflicts are too heavy for us to carry; it is you the youth who can help us. Killing your friend or brother for someone else to be leader is complete nonsense, so be wise.”
Mr Titus Jawol Bisunna, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GYNF, entreated the media to be cautious with their utterances on the airwaves in order not to fan any conflict in the country.
