THE LIBRARY



All Nations University Library has a stock of 11,000 volumes on the shelves and over 30,000 volumes in the library warehouse. It has a seating capacity of 140. The library of congress classification is used in classifying books and ensuring a sequential arrangement of the books on the shelves. The library has a fully networked electronic catalogue system that facilitates location and retrieval of books by author, title and subject. The cataloging department has automated its operations into catalogue databases thereby availing information for consultation.

MEMBERSHIP


Membership is open to all students of the college, academic staff, and junior administrative and technical staff. By special permission of the Vice President Academic Affairs, other persons may be given membership.

WORKING HOUR


The library shall remain open to students on all working days except on national holidays. Working hours shall be as follows:
During the semester:
Weekdays
8:00a.m           -           9:45pm

Saturdays.
9:00a.m           -           9:00 p.m

Sundays (during examination month)
2:00pm            -           9:00 pm

During inter-semester-break
Weekdays
9:00a.m           -           5:00p.m

Saturdays
9:00a.m           -           6:00p.m
NB: Working hours are subject to be changed from time to time when need arises.

The library may be used by:

  • Faculty and staff of the university.
  • Students.

ADMISSION TO THE LIBRARY


  • All students may be allowed admission to the library unless a person is either of unsound mind or intoxicated.
  • Silence shall be observed all the time within the library premises.
  • Eating drinking and spitting are prohibited in the library.           
  • Bags shall not be allowed in the library.
  • No reader is allowed to sleep in the library.
  • Cell phones must be switched off at all times.
  • The decision of the librarian shall be final

CARE OF BOOKS


  1. No book is to be written in, cut, or damaged in any way. Any defect in or damage to a book should be reported to the library staff immediately.
  2. Readers/students must not trace any picture or figure from any book/material.
  3. Readers and borrowers will be held responsible for any damage to a book in their charge and will be required to pay the appropriate cost of such damaged books

GENERAL RULES


  1. No foods, or drink, including sachet water is allowed in any part of the library. Toffees, fruits, candies not exempted.
  2. Gowns, raincoats, umbrellas, cameras, scanners, tape recorders etc must be deposited with the security at the entrance and a tag given as a receipt.
  3. However such items are deposited at owners’ risk and the library disclaims responsibility for any loss or damage.
  4. Firearms and other offensive weapons are not allowed in the library.
  5. Pets are not allowed in any part of the library.
  6. No seat shall be reserved by or for any reader. Any seat so reserved shall be cleared by library staff for use by others.
  7. Library staff will inspect any item being taken out of the library.
  8. Readers may not enter staff offices except by invitation by a staff member.
  9. Students shall clear with the library before end of semester examinations.
  10. All borrowed books should be returned before commencement of end of semester examination.

BORROWERS AND THEIR PRIVILEGES AND OBLIGATIONS


  1. Incase of loss of student I.D the borrower must report immediately to the librarian.
  2. Books shall be issued to students for two weeks (a fortnight). To lecturers for one month.
  3. If the books are not returned on the due dates an overdue charge of 10 pesewas shall be imposed per book per day.
  4. Reference books, rare bookmarks and unbound periodicals may not be issued generally except with a written record from the librarian.
  5. Books may be renewed if the same are not on demand or are not reserved.
  6. If a member does not pay off library dues (fine) the privilege of borrowing books will be suspended until the dues are settled.
  7.  The librarian shall have the power to refuse the issue of a book to any member or he/she may recall any book without assigning any reason thereof.

OFFENCES AND SANCTIONS


Loss or misplacement of books and other related materials.

Sanction: offender will pay twice the current price of the book plus a processing fee of GH¢1.00

Unlawful acquisition of library material/stealing

Sanctions for ordinary books:
Suspension /rustication from the university. In addition, the member shall lose borrowing rights for one semester.
Sanction for reference / reserved books:
Suspension from the university. Plus possible dismissal.
Sanction for rare books 
Outright dismissal.

Mutilation of books and related materials

Sanction: A student /member who commits this offence shall be dismissed from the university.

  • Failure to return books and other materials on demand.

Sanction: Suspension from the university plus any overdue charges.
Incase a senior member i.e. faculty or staff who commits any of the above offences, a report shall be made to the vice president (Academics) and to the registrar for appropriate sanctions to be instituted against him/her.

  • With regard to the General Rules of the library Regulations (5) above, the flouting of any of them could result in the library imposing appropriate sanctions on the offenders(s) including the suspension of the use of the library.

REMINDER



The university library must serve successive generations of readers: marking, mutilations, or misappropriation of books, periodicals or any library material is an offence against the common good. A sense of responsibility towards the rights and needs of others is expected of all library users.
