DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

Dr. John Rajan
Head of Department

History

The Department was set up to train highly skilled Computer Scientists and professionals to meet the ever increasing demands of the computer age of modern society.  The academic programme began in Nov. 2002, with only 8 students; however a re-accreditation by an international team of experts adjudged the programme to be among the best in Africa. This exercise upgraded the programme from B.Sc. Computer Science to B.Sc (Hons.)  Computer Science.

In 2006, we obtained accreditation to begin the Bachelor of Computer Engineering which is an in-depth study of the Engineering and hardware concepts of Computer Education.

All Nations University College is one of the few Universities that have qualified full-time faculty in Computer Science in the entire country, supported by sophisticated modern computer laboratories for practical training. ANUC is the only University that builds its own computers from scratch to meet its needs. Our graduates are in high demand due to the quality of our programmes.

Department Vision, Mission, and Objectives
To be recognized throughout the continent for providing a stimulating learning environment to achieve excellence.

Mission
To create a center of excellence for budding professionals so as to equip them with strong fundamental concepts, programming and problem solving skills with an exposure to emerging technologies by providing hands-on experience to meet the current challenges of the industry.
Objectives

  1. To instill in students an appreciation of learning and the need to remain abreast with changing technologies throughout their career.
  2.                To provide opportunities to gain practical experience in computer technologies, using the latest modern software and hardware.
  3. Excel in all aspects of academic research and produce high quality science-based professionals and enhance their general skills in logical and analytical understanding.
  4. To provide students with ability to perform analysis, specification, design and implementation of quality computer solution.
  5. To establish and maintain an atmosphere that supports faculty development  and growth, that encourages faculty to embrace constant changes in technology and curriculum, and to be creative in all aspects of their jobs.

Short Range Goals

  1. To organize Symposium / Workshop / National Conference / Training programme for the benefit of the Students, Faculty and Community.
  2. To continue to refine the curriculum so as to provide the strongest and most current instruction.
  3. Deputation of faculty members and student body for Quality Improvement Program.
  4. To motivate the students to do Industrial Projects rather than application-oriented projects.
  5. To achieve technical excellence with the help of skilled faculty.
  6. To build up a good department library.
  7. To serve the community with training programmes.
  8. To commence PG Programme.

Future Goals
The department has some long range goals which are:

  1. To establish an interactive collaboration with industries
  2. To carry out research and development projects for outside agencies
  3. To start a testing center for both Hardware and Software

Laboratory and Infrastructure
The department is equipped with good programming laboratories with about 150 PIV computers for the benefit of the student body. In addition to research, projects are developed and handled by a separate team of members working under the name ANU Technologies. The modern laboratories are fully networked and supported by 24/7 internet connectivity. The department has a dedicated VSAT connection, and is also equipped with sophisticated servers. The various servers include File servers, application servers, DNS, ISA and Database servers which are being maintained by the IT Network and Maintenance Team.
